چکیده
ranged between 51.9% [9] and 86.7% [11], with many series not providing either or both of these data. As a result, a lobectomy or greater resection was necessary on anatomical or diagnostic grounds and led to a low number of sublobar resections in these series. No series compared postoperative morbidity between lobectomy or greater resection and sublobar resection. Owing to the high heterogeneity within and between series, small numbers of peripheral tumours and low reporting rates of disease recurrence and postoperative morbidity, it is difficult to draw conclusions. There is a lack of comprehensive randomized studies to compare a lobectomy or greater resection and sublobar resection. Although a typical carcinoid is reported as having good long-term disease-free prognosis, there is little objective evidence to show the equivalence or superiority of a lobectomy over sublobar resection in terms of disease recurrence and longterm survival. With an atypical carcinoid, there is insufficient data that can be used for evidence-based practice.

Sublobar resection for lung cancer.
Sublobar resection for small lung cancers has been debated frequently and is still a controversial issue. The only randomised trial comparing lobectomy with sublobar resections found a significantly higher recurrence rate for the latter, but failed to show significant differences in survival, although survival was better for the lobectomy group. One meta-analysis and several nonrandomised compa...

Background: Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (NEN) represent 60% of all appendicular tumours. This type of cancer is predominantly benign. In this study, appendicular NEN tumours in children were investigated. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 540 patients underwent emergency appendectomy for the treatment of clinically suspected appendicitis at the department of p...
متن کاملIs lobectomy really more effective than sublobar resection in the surgical treatment of second primary lung cancer?
OBJECTIVES Sublobar resection for early-stage lung cancer is still a controversial issue. We sought to compare sublobar resection (segmentectomy or wedge resection) with lobectomy in the treatment of patients with a second primary lung cancer. METHODS From January 1995 to December 2010, 121 patients with second primary lung cancer, classified by the criteria proposed by Martini and Melamed, w...
متن کاملLobectomy versus Sublobar Resection in Non-Lepidic Small-Sized Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Background Recently, many surgeons have chosen sublobar resection for the curative treatment of lung tumors with ground-glass opacity, which is a hallmark of lepidic lung cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the oncological results of sublobar resection for non-lepidic lung cancer in comparison with lobectomy. Methods We conducted a retrospective chart review of 328 patients with...
متن کاملLimited Resection for Lung Cancer: Current Role
Sublobar resection for lung cancer-whether non-anatomic wedge resection or anatomic segmentectomy has been performed for many decades. That it has never become a mainstream strategy for treating primary lung cancer is mainly due to evidence from the late 20th Century demonstrating that it offers inferior results compared to conventional lobectomy in terms of survival and loco-regional recurrenc...
